Rest-of-Season Projections
2025 Fantasy Outlook
The veteran first baseman split the 2023 campaign between Milwaukee and Pittsburgh and had a .747 OPS with 23 home runs, 86 RBI and 78 runs in 146 games as he revitalized his career, and he put up similar numbers for Minnesota in 2024 with 23 long balls, 71 RBI, 63 runs and a .238/.328/.420 slash line in 150 contests. It's Santana's second straight season with an OPS over .700, and he's hit at least 18 homers in each of the past 13 full-length seasons and has a double-digit walk rate in every year of his career. There's a growing risk of decline since Santana will turn 39 years old in April, but for the most part he's been a reliable lower-tier first baseman in fantasy. However, his .240 batting average in 2023 was his highest since 2019, and he could be a drag in that category since often derives a lot of real-world offensive value from his keen eye and on-base percentage. Santana is back in Cleveland on a one-year deal for 2025, and pitcher-friendly Progressive Field could slightly depress his upside. Read Past Outlooks

Clubs grand slam in rout
Santana went 1-for-4 with a grand slam in Wednesday's 11-2 win over the Reds.
ANALYSIS
The veteran switch hitter broke the game open when he drove a Nick Lodolo changeup over the right-center field fence in the third inning. It was Santana's eighth homer of the season, but his first off a left-handed pitcher, while the grand slam was the sixth of his career among his 332 long balls. Through 63 contests in 2025, Santana is slashing .251/.350/.388 with 34 RBI, putting him on pace to reach 80 for only the second time since 2019.

Santana was able to reverse a downward career trend last year in what was his age-37 season. After putting up three straight seasons with a sub-.700 OPS, he upped that number to .741 in 2023 while collecting his highest home run (23), RBI (86) and runs (78) totals in four seasons. Santana's .240 average was easily his best in four seasons, as the veteran switch-hitter no doubt benefitted from the shift restrictions. He even took advantage of the new rules in stealing six bases (his highest total in eight seasons) without being caught. Santana still has his plate discipline skills, remains a very good defender at first base and has been extremely durable throughout his career, so he should have a shot at finding regular at-bats again in 2024.

Latest Fantasy Rumors

Possible target for Boston
Mac Cerullo of the Boston Herald named Santana as a potential trade target for the Red Sox in the wake of Triston Casas' season-ending knee surgery.
ANALYSIS
Santana inked a one-year, $12 million contract with the Guardians in December, bringing him back to the club with which he's spent most of his MLB career. The 39-year-old continues to hit well in 2025 with a .254/.363/.384 slash line through 51 games, and he would provide the Red Sox with some stability at first base. However, Cleveland has a 30-25 record and is likely to remain in the playoff hunt, so the organization won't be eager to part with a quality bat, even if he is on an expiring contract.
