2025 Fantasy Outlook
Selected in the seventh round out of Rutgers in the 2025 Draft, Monangai could prove to be a steal for the Bears. While he doesn't have breakaway speed or much in the way of receiving skills, Monangai is surprisingly nimble in traffic and has strong contact balance, potentially making him a weapon on early downs and in short-yardage situations. New head coach Ben Johnson had plenty of success in Detroit with a backfield tandem, and while D'Andre Swift can capably fill the lightning role, Monangai will battle with Roschon Johnson to be the thunder. Battling for depth role
Monangai is a longshot for touches but could climb the Bears' depth chart Sean Hammond of the Chicago Tribune reports.
ANALYSIS
After being drafted in the seventh round, the rookie enters a crowded backfield behind D'Andre Swift and Roschon Johnson. Monangai will likely begin as the RB3 or RB4 but brings a productive college resume, including consecutive 1,200-yard seasons at Rutgers. Unless injuries occur, Monangai may be limited to special teams and spot work early in the year.

Stepping up in minicamp
Head coach Ben Johnson on Thursday mentioned Monangai as one of four players who have "really stepped up" in the Bears' early sessions of minicamp, Adam Jahns of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
"I appreciate the attention to detail and the pride [Monangai] takes and how quickly he's picking things up," Johnson said at the end of Thursday's session. Though the Bears were expected to prioritize a running back in the 2025 NFL Draft, they waited until the seventh round to select Monangai. The Rutgers product rushed for over 1,200 yards in each of his last two seasons in college and will enter training camp as the third running back on the Bears' depth chart behind D'Andre Swift and Roschon Johnson.
