2025 Fantasy Outlook
The 49ers selected Watkins late in the fourth round of this year's draft with the intention of adding depth to a revamped receiver corps. The 23-year-old brings sure hands and return abilities to the table, but he'll struggle to find playing time assuming he breaks camp with San Francisco. Jauan Jennings, Ricky Pearsall and veteran acquisition Demarcus Robinson are lined up to serve as the starting WR trio while star wideout Brandon Aiyuk rehabs a knee injury to begin the season. Clear for potential pro debut
Watkins (ankle) doesn't have a designation for Sunday's game in New Orleans, Noah Furtado of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
ANALYSIS
Watkins thus is set to make his pro debut after capping Week 2 prep with a full practice Friday, per Vic Tafur of The Athletic. The rookie fourth-round initially sustained a high-ankle sprain Aug. 9, but slightly more than a month removed from the injury, he's been cleared for game action. Watkins' eventual workload Sunday could be tied to whether or not veteran WR Jauan Jennings (shoulder) is able to suit up, but he'd still be vying with Ricky Pearsall, Kendrick Bourne, Marquez Valdes-Scantling and Skyy Moore for snaps and targets.

Impresses Niners vets in offseason
Watkins, whom the 49ers selected out of Mississippi in the fourth round of the 2025 NFL Draft, made a strong impression on a pair of his new veteran teammates with his offseason work, Briana McDonald of the team's official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Fullback Kyle Juszczyk and Christian McCaffrey have made a concerted effort to mentor the team's rookies this offseason, and Watkins is one that has already stood out for his work in OTAs. With Brandon Aiyuk and Ricky Pearsall both opening camp in the active/PUP list due to their respective knee and hamstring injuries, and Aiyuk's availability for Week 1 still in question, Watkins has a chance to play a key role right from the onset of his career. "I loved what Jordan Watkins was doing, man. I'm really excited about what he can do for the offense, and that's a position where we're going to need some help early on with Brandon Aiyuk being injured," Juszczyk said.
