2025 Fantasy Outlook
Six quarterbacks were drafted in the first round in 2024, and Daniels, the second pick, proved the best. Strong passing numbers and elite rushing propelled him to QB5 in fantasy and led the Commanders to the NFC championship game. Daniels backed up his pre-draft billing as an accurate passer, ranking 10th in on-target percentage (75.4) and sixth in completion rate (a rookie-record 69.0 percent). He also improved throughout the year, throwing 16 TDs in a six-game stretch in the second half of the season after throwing nine in the first nine games. He finished 14th in YPA (7.4) and 10th in TD passes (25). It was Daniels' rushing prowess that set him apart, however. He set a rookie QB record with 891 rushing yards, and scored six times on the ground. He was sacked 47 times (6th most) despite having the fourth-quickest time to throw (2.68 seconds), but the Commanders fixed the weakest link of their offensive line this offseason, trading for Pro Bowl LT Laremy Tunsil. The Commanders also gave Daniels receiving help by trading for Deebo Samuel, who figures to get a lot of short passes and carries while Terry McLaurin handles a large chunk of the end-zone targets and deep passes. Tight end Zach Ertz is also back after catching 66 passes last season. A better supporting cast might mean fewer scrambles for Daniels -- whose 79 last season were 28 more than any QB -- but that would also likely translate to more pass attempts. Either way, a spot in the Top 5 of fantasy QBs is likely. Read Past Outlooks

Pair of TDs in Week 2 loss
Daniels completed 24 of 42 passes for 200 yards with two touchdowns and no interceptions while adding seven rushes for 17 yards in the Commanders' 27-18 loss to the Packers on Thursday. He also threw a two-point conversion pass.
ANALYSIS
Daniels' final line was serviceable from a fantasy perspective, but the second-year signal-caller compiled a portion of his numbers against a Packers defense playing to protect a relatively comfortable lead. He managed to avoid any turnovers and made matters somewhat interesting ub rgw diyerg by helming a 10-play, 65-yard march that he capped with a 10-yard touchdown toss to Deebo Samuel in the latter portion of the fourth quarter, while adding a two-point conversion toss to Luke McCaffrey on the following play. Daniels previously also connected with Zach Ertz from 20 yards out for his first scoring pass of the night early in the fourth quarter, and he was a bit more productive when targeting Terry McLaurin (5-48-0) than in the opener against the Giants. Daniels and the Commanders now get some extra time to prepare for a Week 3 home matchup against the Raiders on Sunday, Sept. 21.

2024 Fantasy Outlook
Drafted second overall this year, Daniels took first-team practice reps all summer and was named as Washington's Week 1 starter in mid-August. He's an outstanding athlete, but at 6-4, 210, his slim build raises durability concerns. That's about the only concern. Armed with a quick release, Daniels is accurate all over the field. Unlike others in his draft, Daniels' 72.2 completion percentage last season (7th in FBS) was not built on accuracy-inflating short passes -- his average target depth (10.2) and YPA (11.7) both led the nation. Daniels has a strong arm, though not an elite one, and is an excellent deep-ball thrower. He operates well in the pocket but can also play on the run, and it's his dual-threat ability that is intriguing both for Washington and fantasy managers (he ran for more than 2,000 yards and 21 TDs at LSU the last two years). Daniels sometimes holds the ball longer than necessary, resulting in sacks, and his passing stats in college were solid-but-unexceptional prior to his Heisman-winning 2023 campaign. The Commanders have a few experienced targets in RB Austin Ekeler, WR Terry McLaurin and TE Zach Ertz, but they lack depth at the skill positions and may need quick development form rookie TE Ben Sinnott (Round 2) and rookie WR Luke McCaffrey (Round 3). Daniels is lauded for his high football IQ and seems to fit well in offensive coordinator Kliff Kingsbury's scheme, but even if the rookie needs time to figure out the passing game his rushing ability should create fantasy value.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Top target back with team
Daniels' chances of having his top target back by Week 1 improved Sunday, as Terry McLaurin ended his holdout and reported to training camp, per Nicki Jhabvala of The Washington Post.
ANALYSIS
McLaurin was removed from the reserve/did not report list and placed on the active/PUP list due to an ankle injury, per Jhabvala. Assuming the ankle injury doesn't require an extended absence, McLaurin should be back to working as Daniels' top receiving option before long. McLaurin led the Commanders in both receiving yards and receiving touchdowns in 2024.
