2025 Fantasy Outlook
Phillips is entering the final year of his rookie contract, so his full focus will be on recovering from the ACL tear that limited him to four appearances in 2024, with an eye on logging an impressive contract season. The 2021 first-rounder has only suited up for 12 combined games over the last two years, making it pivotal he proves an ability to stay healthy in 2025. When at 100 percent form, Phillips will have an opportunity to produce in what should be a much-improved Dolphins pass rush, with Bradley Chubb en route to a return and Chop Robinson entering Year 2. Phillips (knee) participated in Friday's practice, Yianni Kourakis of WPBF News reports.
ANALYSIS
Phillips suffered a partial right ACL tear in early October that ended his 2024 campaign. He was able to participate in OTAs in a limited capacity and has progressed enough in his recovery to be fully active in practices for training camp. Phillips has played just 12 regular-season games over the last two years but is expected to be the Dolphins' second starting edge rusher opposite Bradley Chubb.

Phillips, a 2021 first-round pick, was putting together a career year before tearing his ACL in Week 12 of the 2023 campaign. The Dolphins have picked up the fifth-year option of Phillips' rookie deal, keeping him under contract for two more seasons, but it would be reasonable to anticipate him getting off to a slow start in 2024. That could be true for much of Miami's defensive front, with Bradley Chubb also working his way back from an ACL tear, but once both are back to full health, they should be able to bring some serious pressure up front against opposing offenses.
Phillips has quickly proven why the Dolphins selected him in the first round of the 2021 NFL Draft, as he's picked up an impressive 15.5 sacks across his first two seasons as a pro. He took a significant step forward in his sophomore campaign from a role perspective, as he increased his snap total from 594 to 796 while playing in all 17 games. This could be the year he surpasses 1,000 snaps as a true every-down player, which in turn should help his production across the board. Phillips is a prime breakout candidate.
Phillips has a somewhat concerning collegiate injury history, particularly with reference to concussions, but he should take on an immediate starting role in Miami as long as he can stay healthy. The Dolphins are hoping to have finally found a premier defensive end in the 22-year-old.

Another season-ending injury
LBMiami Dolphins
October 2, 2024
Phillips suffered a partially torn ACL during Monday's loss to the Titans and will miss the rest of the 2024 season, Marcel Louis-Jacques of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Phillips suffered the injury when the helmet of teammate Jordan Poyer collided with his right knee during a tackle attempt on Titans running back Tony Pollard. Phillips actually re-entered the game after being fitted for a brace at halftime, but he left for good in the third quarter. Phillips also saw his 2023 regular season cut short -- albeit much later into the campaign -- when he suffered a torn Achilles during a November win over the Jets.
