2025 Fantasy Outlook
Culp’s 4.47 speed is impressive for a tight end, but he doesn’t have much else going for him. The 2024 seventh-round pick had just five catches as a rookie, even though starting TE Cade Otton missed three games due to a knee injury. Otton and Payne Durham are both clearly ahead of Culp on the depth chart, and Culp’s limitations as a blocker will likely keep his snaps limited in a Tampa Bay offense that relies primarily on its standout wide receiver room for production through the air. Raising expectations for Year 2
Culp, who showed some late-season promise as a rookie seventh-round pick in 2024, has stood out in the Buccaneers' early training camp practices, Brianna Dix of the team's official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Culp posted a 5-88-0 line on six targets over Weeks 17 and 18 of the 2024 regular season when Cade Otton sat out due to a knee injury, flashing some downfield chops with a pair of catches of 20-plus yards. With 6-foot-4, 237-pound dimensions, Culp's athleticism, which was on display with an acrobatic catch on the sideline in Thursday's training camp practice, and ability to beat linebackers down the seam is something that has Baker Mayfield excited for what it can bring to the offense. "Devin has taken a lot of steps," noted Mayfield. "He is a guy that is extremely athletic for his size and can really run, so just being able to have a guy like that [is huge]. Cade [Otton] is trustworthy and is more of our dominant meathead guy but having an athletic guy like Dev to stretch the field at the tight end position will create mismatch problems."

Culp was the 12th and final tight end to hear his name called in the 2024 NFL Draft, going to the Buccaneers with the 246th overall pick in Round 7. Tampa Bay’s a decent landing spot for a tight end looking to make an impact right away. Cade Otton has a firm grasp on the starting job going into his third NFL season, but the depth chart behind the 2022 fourth-round draft pick consists of three unproven late picks in recent drafts: 2022 sixth-round pick Ko Kieft, 2023 fifth-rounder Payne Durham, and Culp. Though Culp accounted for only 474 of Michael Penix’s 9,544 passing yards in 28 games at Washington over the past two seasons, the 6-foot-3, 231-pound tight end ran a blazing fast 4.47-second 40-yard dash at the NFL Combine. Culp underwhelmed statistically in college and will need to greatly improve his blocking to earn consistent playing time, but his measurables give him some fantasy upside as a pass-catching tight end/wide receiver hybrid.
