2025 Fantasy Outlook
A 2024 first-round pick, Murphy missed three games due to a hamstring injury that he suffered Week 3, and he also picked up a Week 18 back injury that shouldn't be a long-term concern. Murphy is a disrupter at nose tackle and produced 36 tackles, including 0.5 sacks, through 14 games last year. He should be expected to get to the quarterback more as he develops, but Murphy's real-life value may always be higher than his fantasy value. Read Past Outlooks

Aiming for more pass-rushing work
DTSeattle Seahawks
July 29, 2025
Murphy (back) is expected to be a bigger factor as a pass rusher in 2025, John Boyle of the Seahawks' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Murphy struggled with a hamstring injury early in 2024 and closed the season with a back injury, but he's fully healthy for the start of training camp and is gearing up for an important role in the Seahawks' revamped offense. The 2024 first-round pick relayed that he's expected to work more in the three technique this season, which should hopefully help him improve after he finished with just 0.5 sacks last year.

2024 Fantasy Outlook
Defensive line wasn't an urgent need for the Seahawks, but they nevertheless selected Murphy 16th overall with their only pick in the top 80 of the 2024 NFL Draft. That speaks to the talent and upside Murphy features, including superb athleticism and a 4.87 40-yard dash. While holdover DT Jarran Reed may take most of the reps at nose tackle to start the season, it wouldn't be surprising for Murphy to push for an expanded role immediately, even if it means bouncing to the outside.

Favorite to win ROY
DTSeattle Seahawks
September 3, 2024
Murphy was voted as the most likely player to win Defensive Rookie of the Year in a survey of league executives and scouts, Jeremy Fowler of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
Murphy was taken 16th overall in April's draft but was the second defensive player off the board, meaning an immediate impact should be expected even if Seattle already boasts a talented defensive line. That leaves his role and path to consistent snaps murky, though one scout compared Murphy to Nnamdi Madubuike due to his explosive ability and their low-to-the-ground playing style. Madubuike broke out in 2023 under the coaching of Mike Macdonald, who is now the head coach in Seattle.
