2026 Fantasy Outlook
The Astros scooped Walter up on a minor-league contract in Aug. 2024 after he was released by the Red Sox. He missed that entire season with a shoulder strain, but Walter showed up to Astros camp healthy and wound up being a pleasant surprise, posting a 3.35 ERA, 0.93 WHIP and 52:4 K:BB over 53.2 frames with the big club and a 2.08 ERA, 0.76 WHIP and 49:7 K:BB across 47.2 innings at Triple-A Sugar Land. Unfortunately, Walter's final appearance came in July, as he went down with an elbow injury and eventually underwent Tommy John surgery in September that will keep him out until 2027. Walter is a soft-tossing lefty whose success in the minors (28.9 percent strikeout rate, 5.8 percent walk rate) seemed like a mirage, but he's now shown he can make it work at the major-league level. That said, he'll be 30 by the time he pitches in the majors again, and any slippage with his stuff and/or command post-surgery would make him very vulnerable. Read Past Outlooks
