Picks up points to end season
Hulkenberg finished ninth in the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix F1 race at Yas Marina Circuit on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
Hulkenberg looked to be in for a disappointing end to the season, as he was knocked out in Q1 for the first time since the Azerbaijan Grand Prix. After lining up 18th on the grid to start, he took advantage of a well-timed caution flag, undercutting the field to pick up seven spots. Hulkenberg was unable to make additional progress from there, but he was ultimately promoted to ninth due to time penalties incurred ahead of him. He finished the season with a solid haul of 51 points, highlighted by the first podium of his career at Silverstone in the middle of the summer.

2023 Fantasy Outlook
Hülkenberg is eager to return to a Formula One car as a full-time driver since his departure from the series in 2019, despite his recent filling-in for Sebastian Vettel at Aston Martin at the beginning of 2022. The German brings a lot of on-track experience (181 F1 starts) to Team Haas, in direct contrast to previous Haas driver and 2021 rookie Mick Schumacher, who could not quite muster up enough of a successful season last year to keep his seat with the team. In previous seasons with Renault and Force India, Hülkenberg has consistently been a Top-10 finisher, and Haas Team Principal Guenther Steiner is hopeful that the driver of the No. 27 car can call on some of his previous proficiency behind the wheel to deliver a satisfactory performance for Haas in 2023.
