Struggles in late-notice debut
LightweightUFC
June 7, 2025
Choinski lost to Marquel Mederos via unanimous decision (27-30, 27-30, 28-29) at UFC 316 on Saturday in Newark, New Jersey.
ANALYSIS
Accepting this fight -- his UFC debut -- less than a week ago, Choinski displayed plenty of toughness and not much else. His mobility was compromised the entire bout due to the ridiculous number of leg kicks he absorbed. Choinski attempted to lean on his wrestling but was able to land just 2-of-11 takedown attempts. He also didn't display much offensive awareness in the rare instances in which he got Mederos in a dominant position. Toughness and grappling are often enough to succeed on the regional scene, but you need to bring more than that to succeed at the highest level, and Choinski just didn't appear to have the requisite skill set to do so.

Choinski will take on Marquel Mederos in a lightweight matchup at UFC 316 on Saturday, Marcel Dorff of Eurosport.nl reports.
ANALYSIS
Choinski is a spotless 8-0 as a pro, competing primarily under the Milwaukee-based promotion ran by Anthony Pettis. He's earned a stoppage in six of his eight pro fights, with his most recent five coming by way of submission. Mederos, on the other hand, has started his UFC run with back-to-back victories, most recently defeating Austin Hubbard via split decision in March.
