2025 Fantasy Outlook
Evans starts the first year of a four-year, $11.4 million extension this season after setting a new career high with 36 points in the 2024-25 campaign. He scored 13 goals on the season while shooting a career-best 16.3 percent, so it’s unlikely that he’ll be able to match that efficiency. The reasons that he got his extension from the Canadiens – his defensive acumen, penalty-killing prowess and burgeoning physical play – aren’t the things that will necessarily earn you points in fantasy, but they make him a player that many NHL teams can’t win a championship without. From a fantasy perspective, he’s a middle-six forward at best without any power play time. That will makes it tough for him to earn much more than the 36 points he produced last year, so he's likely no more than a bench option for most managers. Read Past Outlooks
Lights lamp in loss
Evans scored a goal, put two shots on net, served two PIM and dished out three hits in Saturday's 5-4 overtime loss to the Rangers.
ANALYSIS
Evans gave the Canadiens a 3-0 lead in the first period, but the Rangers promptly surged back with two goals of their own prior to the first intermission. The 29-year-old winger is up to five goals, nine points, 34 shots on net, 42 hits and 23 blocks through 30 games this season. He is currently centering the third line and has continued to provide all-around stat coverage. There are likely better options for higher-end scoring in fantasy, but Evans should continue to be a steady source of category coverage when he's in the lineup.

For a seventh-round pick, Evans has done pretty well. Last year, he played in all 82 games for the Canadiens, earning 28 points, 81 shots on net, 86 hits and 65 blocked shots in a middle-six role. A natural winger, Evans has adapted to playing center and being a reliable defensive forward on a rebuilding team -- despite the Canadiens' struggles during his five-year career, he's just a minus-8 over 268 career appearances. His fantasy role is that of a depth forward in deeper formats, as it's unlikely Evans will generate more than 30 points. He doesn't do enough in non-scoring areas to make up for it, but he's also not a detriment in those categories for those fantasy managers who can tolerate his limited offense.
