2025 Fantasy Outlook
Cooley has spent almost his entire professional career in the minors, save for six games with San Jose in 2023-24, in which he posted a 4.98 GAA and an .870 save percentage. The Sharks were a rebuilding team, and two of those six appearances were good -- he even made 49 saves en route to a 3-1 win over Seattle on April 11, 2024 -- but given that's all the NHL action the 28-year-old has on his resume, it's hard to be too optimistic about his prospects. Although he will get a look during training camp, his best-case scenario is beating Ivan Prosvetov for the No. 2 gig behind Dustin Wolf. Prosvetov had a strong 2024-25 in the KHL, so the odds aren't in Cooley's favor, but if he does secure the understudy role, then perhaps he'll make 20-30 starts this year. Read Past Outlooks

Facing Jets
Cooley will be between the visiting pipes in Winnipeg on Saturday, Pat Steinberg of Sportsnet 960 The Fan reports.
ANALYSIS
Cooley spent the 2024-25 campaign with AHL Calgary, posting a 21-17-5 record with a 2.94 GAA and a .905 save percentage. He has played six games at the NHL level, all with San Jose during the 2023-24 season, going 2-3-1 with a 4.98 GAA and an .870 save percentage. He is likely going to play most of the season in the AHL, barring an injury to Dustin Wolf or Ivan Prosvetsov.

Latest Fantasy Rumors

Set to become free agent
Cooley is poised to test free agency July 1 but could still re-sign with San Jose, Sheng Peng of San Jose Hockey Now reports Monday.
ANALYSIS
Cooley was limited to a mere six NHL games this past season in which he went 2-3-1 with a 4.98 GAA and .870 save percentage. Unless Mackenzie Blackwood or Vitek Vanecek are unable to return from their respective undisclosed and lower-body injuries, Cooley probably would have ended up in the minors to open the season if he stayed with San Jose. As is, he'll likely have to settle for a two-way contract regardless of where he signs.
