2025 Fantasy Outlook
After setting career highs in 2023-24 with 49 goals and 120 points in 82 regular-season outings, Panarin took a step back last year with 37 goals and 89 points across 80 appearances. It didn’t help that the Rangers had a rough season overall, but it’s still fair to say that 2024-25 is more representative of what we should expect from the Russian forward in the future compared to 2023-24. That’s partially because age is starting to creep up on him -- he'll turn 34 on Oct. 30 -- and partially because that 2023-24 campaign was such an outlier. Outside of that season, he’s never reached the 40-goal or 100-point marks. Panarin is still an elite forward, and he’ll have some extra motivation going into his contract season, but it’s better to think of him as being one step below the NHL’s cream of the crop when it comes to raw offensive production. Being held out Wednesday
Panarin (not injury related) won't play Wednesday versus the Islanders for roster-management reasons, Mollie Walker of the New York Post reports.
ANALYSIS
Panarin is also not expected to play before the Olympic break. In reality, this likely spells the end of Panarin's time as a Ranger, as the team has already committed to not having him beyond this season. A potential trade destination is unclear, but a new contract extension could be part of the star forward signing off on any move, Chris Johnston of The Athletic reports. Panarin has 19 goals and 57 points over 52 appearances this season. Fantasy managers will need to pivot to a secondary plan until a resolution to Panarin's situation arrives.

Panarin achieved new heights offensively in 2023-24. He only had three 30-goal seasons before potting a career-high 49 tallies last campaign. He also had three 90-plus point performances before erupting for a personal-best 120 points across 82 outings. The 32-year-old forward was also just one of nine players to surpass 300 shots on goal, with a career-high total of 303. Panarin accumulated 44 points on the man advantage, which tied for third in the league. He has recently become one of the bigger threats on the power play, sitting fifth overall with 91 points since 2020-21. Even if he doesn't reach the 100-point mark again in 2024-25, which is a distinct possibility, Panarin has proven to be a reliable offensive force for fantasy managers, making him worthy of a high selection.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
On Sharks' radar
The Sharks have reached out to the Rangers regarding Panarin and would be willing to sign him to an extension, Sheng Peng of San Jose Hockey Now reports Thursday.
ANALYSIS
Panarin is being held out by the Rangers ahead of a potential deal, meaning the veteran winger has likely played his final game for the Blueshirts. If that's the case, Panarin will leave the Big Apple having logged 482 regular-season games for the club in which he racked up 205 goals and 402 assists, adding another 35 points in 46 postseason contests. Panarin would almost certainly end up on the first line with Macklin Celebrini if he's dealt to San Jose.
