2025 Fantasy Outlook
After a shock trade from Vegas to Washington, Thompson delivered one of the more surprisingly good seasons in goal in 2024-25. He went 31-6-6 with a 2.49 GAA and a .910 save percentage over 43 appearances, a larger part of some unexpected success for the Capitals overall. There was some doubt about how Thompson would perform outside of the Golden Knights' system, but 2024-25 proved he is a strong goalie in his own right. The one downside for fantasy managers is that there will be no easy path to a full starter's workload, as the Capitals have both Thompson and Charlie Lindgren signed to multi-year deals to operate as a tandem. Thompson is the better of the two, potentially at a level to be a low-end No. 1 option in fantasy. Read Past Outlooks
Grounded by Jets
Thompson made 30 saves in Saturday's 5-1 loss to Winnipeg.
ANALYSIS
The Jets were energized by the return of Connor Hellebuyck from a knee injury, and the Capitals fell behind early and never recovered. Thompson has just one win in his last four starts, going 1-1-2 with a 2.40 GAA and .934 save percentage, but with Charlie Lindgren back from an upper-body injury of his own, Washington's No. 1 netminder could get a breather as soon as Tuesday in Minnesota.

2022
Thompson arrived in Washington over the summer after requesting a trade out of Vegas. He is seeking more playing time after splitting starts with Adin Hill in 2023-24. However, the 27-year-old Thompson will compete with last season's breakout darling, Charlie Lindgren, to be the top dog with the Capitals. Thompson has a chance to earn the gig. He has a record of 56-32-11 with four shutouts, a 2.67 GAA and a .912 save percentage in 103 career NHL appearances. He's two inches taller and 25 pounds heavier than Lindren and almost four years younger. Thompson and Lindgren will likely share starts until one of them gets hot. That works in daily formats, but it can be difficult for fantasy managers in weekly leagues.
