Capan III and
Jake Knapp finished in solo third place at the Zurich Classic of New Orleans following a tow-under 70 in the final round.
ANALYSISTo say Capan came into the week struggling would be an understatement. He had missed his prior six cuts with just one top-40 finish all season (T12 at AMEX). This team format seemed to really free Capan up and he really enjoyed his partnership with
Jake Knapp. They put themselves in position to win following a 12-under 60 in best ball on Saturday. In alternate shot on Sunday, they were bogey-free through 16 holes and tied for the lead with
Andrew Novak and
Ben Griffin. The pressure seemed to finally get to Capan, however, as he hooked the tee shot into the water on 17 and they fell two behind after Novak and Griffin made birdie. A clutch par save on 18 saved them form dropping into a big group, and instead they got full third-place points. Capan really needed them and now moved up to 103rd in the FedExCup standings. He'll hope this week can spark something going forward. Capan is listed in the field for THE CJ CUP Byron Nelson next week.
