Gipson regressed in 2024 after a promising 2023 rookie season as an undrafted free agent out of Stephen F. Austin. He dropped from 21 catches for 229 yards to six catches for 39 yards on offense, and his all-purpose yardage total dipped from 1,127 to 799. The 5-9, 189-pound Gipson likely won't become more than a part-time slot receiver and gadget player on offense, but his contributions as a punt and kickoff returner give him a decent chance to stick on the Jets' 53-man roster. Officially joins Giants practice squad
The Giants signed Gipson to their practice squad Wednesday, Dan Salomone & Matt Citak of the team's official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Gipson has had a roller-coaster season. He began the campaign with the Jets before being waived Sept. 10. The wideout subsequently was claimed by the Giants, who then released him nine days later. Gipson ultimately landed with the Eagles and got into five games with them, totaling two catches on two targets for six yards while also contributing as a kick and punt returner before being cut Dec. 7. He'll now get a second look from the Giants, and if he's elevated for Sunday's matchup versus Washington, Gipson could be deployed as the team's lead return man, as Gunner Olszewski is currently in concussion protocol and was unable to practice Wednesday.

Gipson played sparingly through Week 8 of his rookie season. In the second half of the season, his role increased significantly. Although Gipson had just one game with more than 33 yards, it’s difficult to put the blame on him. The Jets could not have had a worse situation at quarterback in 2023. As a result, the entire passing game was inept. After Mike Williams signed with the Jets in free agency, Gipson would need to win the No. 3 role to have potential weekly fantasy value. However, if he doesn’t win the third-receiver job, Gipson may not see significant targets.
