Jack Layne Injury: Returns to practice for QB battle
Layne (elbow) participated in New Mexico's first practice of fall camp and is battling James Laubstein for the starting role, per Sean Reider of the Albuquerque Journal.
Layne missed all but one spring practice with the Lobos, but he's back for fall camp while nearing 100 percent. "I'm feeling really confident about where I'm at right now, and just not thinking about (it) as much. Just ripping," the quarterback said. He remains in a quarterback battle with James Laubstein for now, although New Mexico will reportedly name a starter by Aug. 18 when classes start.
