Personal Bio/PreCareer Summary

Sharife Omar Cooper was born in Newark, New Jersey in June of 2001. Sharife was raised by Kindall and Omar Cooper. He attended McEachern High School in Powder Springs, Georgia. Cooper received a lot of media attention in December of 2017 when he posted a 42-point performance against Jahvon Quinerly. As a junior, Cooper averaged 27.2 points and 8.1 assists, leading his team to a 32-0 record and its first state title in school history. He was named USA Today Player of the Year, Maxpreps National Player of the Year, Mr. Georgia Basketball and Georgia's Gatorade Player of the Year, and he was selected to the 2020 McDonald's All-American game. Cooper played one season at Auburn that was shortened due to injury. However, he was still able to average 20.2 points and 8.1 assists, earning him SEC All-Freshman Team honors. Cooper was drafted with the 48th pick in the 2021 NBA draft by the Atlanta Hawks.

Cooper (calf) tallied six points (3-9 FG, 0-2 3Pt), six assists and three rebounds across 21 minutes in Friday's 111-77 win over the Maine Celtics.
ANALYSIS
The two-way player first surfaced on the Wizards' injury report in late November after he sustained a right calf strain, but after about two weeks out of action, he shook off the injury and returned to the court in the G League. Prior to Friday's appearance, Cooper suited up for the Go-Go in Wednesday's 112-101 loss to Maine, finishing with 16 points (7-8 FG, 1-2 3Pt, 1-1 FT), seven assists, three rebounds, one steal and one block in 22 minutes.

2021 Fantasy Outlook
The 48th overall pick in the 2021 draft will fill a two-way slot. As a true freshman at Auburn last season, Cooper was one of the most explosive scorers in college basketball (20.2 points per game) and thrived as a distributor (8.1 assists per game), but his inefficient shooting (39.1 percent from the field, 22.8 percent from three-point range), a lack of size (6-foot-1, 180 pounds) and poor defense resulted in him falling to the second round of the draft. With Atlanta acquiring Delon Wright earlier in the offseason to back up starting point guard Trae Young, Cooper likely won't have a path to a rotation role as a rookie when the Hawks are at full strength in the backcourt.

ANALYSIS
Cooper was abysmal at 2022-23 Summer League, shooting just 18.9 percent from the field on 7.4 shots per game in five contests with Atlanta. He then put forth a solid but volume-rich G League campaign with Cleveland last season, averaging 21.3 points on 16.6 shots per game. Cooper reached a healthy medium in scoring usage for the Summer League champion Cavaliers but was a DNP-CD in the final two contests. It's unclear what his next opportunity may be.
