2025 Fantasy Outlook
The Hornets dealt Richards to the Suns during the 2024-25 campaign. He started 34 of his 36 regular-season appearances for Phoenix and submitted solid production in the typical big-man categories (rebounds, blocks and field-goal percentage). He'll face stiff competition for minutes in 2025-26. The Suns drafted Khaman Maluach with the No. 10 pick in the 2025 NBA Draft, and that same night, they pulled off a trade for Richards' former teammate, Mark Williams. Williams will likely start over Richards again, and Maluach's development may be more important to Phoenix than getting Richards consistent minutes. If he's not playing 20-plus minutes a night, it'll be nearly impossible for Richards to provide top-200 fantasy value. However, he's a name worth monitoring on the waiver wire, especially if Williams or Maluach is unavailable for an extended period. Richards should also get a boost in rankings for two-center leagues, but even in that case, he should be your fourth or fifth center. Read Past Outlooks
Rerouted to Chicago
Richards was traded to the Bulls on Thursday, Shams Charania of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
Richards, who'd fallen out of favor in Phoenix, was traded, along with Nigel Hayes-Davis, to the Bucks on Thursday in exchange for Cole Anthony and Amir Coffey. However, the Bulls swept in right before the deadline to swap Ousmane Dieng for Richards. Jalen Smith was set for a long runway after Chicago traded Nikola Vucevic to the Celtics, but Richards' presence as a quality backup may hinder Smith's fantasy ceiling moving forward. Richard can be considered questionable for Saturday's game against Denver while the deal finalizes.

Past Fantasy Outlooks
2023
2022
After barely playing during his first two seasons in the NBA, Richards was able to carve out a meaningful role for himself during the 2022-23 campaign. In 18.7 minutes per night, he put up averages of 8.2 points, 6.4 rebounds and 1.1 blocks, shooting 62.9 percent from the field and a respectable 74.9 percent from the line. Although Mark Williams is now firmly established as the starting center in Charlotte, Richards should serve as the primary backup. His role should replicate what he was able to do last season, putting him on the radar as a specialist target in slightly deeper formats. If Williams misses time at all during the season, Richards could make for a must-add player, even in 12-team leagues.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Linked to Spurs
Richards' name surfaced in exploratory trade talks between Phoenix and San Antonio centered around Jeremy Sochan, Michael Scotto of USA Today reports.
ANALYSIS
Acquiring Sochan would push the Suns further into the luxury tax, so unless there are more moving parts here, Scotto notes that this scenario is unlikely. Richards is on an expiring $5 million contract, and with the Suns well stocked at center, the veteran has become expendable to the franchise.
