2023 Fantasy Outlook
Pilkington split 2022 between Triple-A Columbus and Cleveland, serving primarily as a starter. In 15 big-league outings (11 starts), he had a 3.88 ERA, 1.47 WHIP and 50:32 K:BB across 58 innings. He also posted a 5.88 ERA, 1.51 WHIP and 58:26 K:BB through 56.2 innings at Triple-A. His role as the de facto sixth starter for the Guardians, combined with their bizarrely high number of rainouts and doubleheaders, likely led to him seeing more time than initially expected. The 25-year-old has decent strikeout potential, but he'd benefit from another year spent mostly in the minors to cut down on his ugly 12.4 percent walk rate in the majors. Pilkington projects as a back-of-the-rotation starter until his command improves, though he's likely at least a year away from claiming such a role on a full-time basis.

Receiving look in rotation
PCleveland Guardians
May 25, 2022
According to Joe Noga of The Cleveland Plain Dealer, Pilkington will be promoted from Triple-A Columbus to start Thursday against the Tigers.
Analysis
The 24-year-old has made one start for Cleveland this season and will now receive another look in the rotation with Aaron Civale, who is dealing with glute soreness, on the injured list. Pilkington hasn't pitched especially well out of Columbus' rotation with a 5.02 ERA across 14 innings, but he's been better in the majors with only two earned runs allowed over 8.2 frames. Civale should reclaim his rotation spot once healthy in a few weeks, but his 7.84 ERA through seven starts could leave him with a shorter leash, and Pilkington could position himself for more starts with a strong showing Thursday.
