2025 Fantasy Outlook
Cousins, who was traded from the White Sox to the Yankees last March, rode the success of his slider (66 percent usage, .141 BA, 47.7 percent whiff) to earn a high-leverage role with New York during the second-half of 2024, including the postseason. The 30-year-old righty's 34.2 percent strikeout rate would have been a top-15 mark among relief pitchers if he threw enough innings to qualify - he only completed 38 frames last year, though it was a career-high. Unfortunately, control issues continue to limit Cousins' upside, as he's walked nearly 15 percent of the batters he's faced over his career. He's likely to fill a low-to-medium leverage role for the Yankees in 2025, though he has the potential to climb the saves hierarchy if he finds the strike zone on a more consistent basis. May have UCL damage
Yankees manager Aaron Boone said Wednesday that Cousins (forearm) appears to be dealing with a UCL injury, but the right-hander will receive further medical opinions before the diagnosis is confirmed, Jackson Stone of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Cousins was dealing with a right forearm strain upon reporting to spring training and opened the season on the injured list, and his rehab process was extended further in May, when he suffered a pectoral injury. He made enough progress with his throwing program to head out on a minor-league rehab assignment earlier this month, but he made just two appearances before experiencing his second setback of the season. If Cousins is in fact dealing with ligament damage in his elbow, his return would likely be pushed back until after the All-Star break if he elects to treat the injury with rest and rehab. Season-ending Tommy John surgery would also be a potential outcome.

2023 Fantasy Outlook
After a promising rookie debut in 2021, Cousins was expected to be a key part of the Brewers' late-inning mix. Unfortunately, the right-hander made just eight appearances last April before suffering a UCL injury in his right elbow that sidelined him for nearly three months. Cousins opted against undergoing Tommy John surgery and instead received a PRP injection before beginning his rehab program. He reached the final stage of his recovery in late July and spent the next month on a minor-league rehab assignment before he was activated and subsequently optioned. Cousins returned to the Brewers in September and made four more appearances to bring his total to 12 on the season, covering just 13.1 innings. The 28-year-old has tremendous upside (13.5 K/9 over 43.1 big league innings) and could play an important role for Milwaukee in 2023, but is one of the riskier late-round darts due to the possibility of re-injury.
