Lopez looked like a top-of-the-rotation ace when healthy last year posting a 2.74 ERA and 73:20 K:BB over 75.2 innings. He made just 14 starts, however, as he missed three weeks in April with a hamstring strain, then in June he missed two months after suffering a Grade 2 teres major strain in his right shoulder and then he missed the final three weeks of the season with right forearm tightness. He performed better than his peripheral stats as his strikeout rate dipped slightly (23.4%) and he had an unsustainable 0.7 HR/9 thanks to a 7.1% HR/FB%. His numbers were otherwise in line with his career with a good strikeout rate, solid velocity (94.4 mph average fastball), great control (6.4% BB%) and a five-pitch arsenal. An MRI after the season showed no concerns with his elbow or his ulnar collateral ligament from the forearm strain and he's expected to have a normal offseason. Watch his health closely this spring as durability will be his primary concern. Read Past Outlooks
