Pointing out that Thomas enjoyed a career year is faint praise, considering his personal best 81 wRC+ was well below average. Furthermore, his strikeout rate was a career worst, and he relied on a .324 BABIP, which was not supported by his falling hard hit rate. Not to pile on, but Thomas graded among the weakest defenders in center field. His ground ball rate dropped to a career-low 52.1 percent last season, which continued to cap already modest power. While he owns 75th-percentile sprint speed, it has little effect alongside a .289 OBP. Thomas is slated to open the season in center field, but with the Diamondbacks reshaping their roster, his role is far from secure and his place with the organization is not assured.
