2026 Tournament PreviewAfter leading Michigan to the Sweet 16 as a 5-seed in his debut year with the program, Dusty May now has the Wolverines among the top teams in the country (No. 2 in both NET and KenPom). The strength of this team is in the interior, with a trio of forwards in Yaxel Lendeborg (14.3 ppg, 7.3 rpg), Morez Johnson (13.4 ppg, 7.4 rpg) and Aday Mara (11.4 ppg, 6.9 rpg, 2.9 bpg) all capable of handling big workloads and taking over in any given game. With these three players 6-9 or taller around the basket, Michigan ranks No. 2 in the country in two-point FG percentage. Defensively, the Wolverines are No. 1 in opponent effective FG percentage and No. 2 in efficiency, per KenPom. They don't let opponents inside and force bad shots, checking in at No. 1 in opponent Average 2PA distance (per KenPom). The team did lose backup point guard L.J. Cason (8.4 ppg) to an ACL tear in February, which means UNC transfer Elliot Cadeau (10.1 ppg, 5.5 apg) will have to carry an even greater load. His play could potentially dictate Michigan's ultimate NCAA Tournament ceiling.
