2025 Fantasy Outlook
The Nets had four first-round picks going into the 2025 NBA Draft, and they traded for a fifth, selecting Powell at No. 22 overall after a three-team deal with the Hawks and Celtics. He flashed elite 3-and-D potential during his lone season at North Carolina, and that'll likely have to be his calling card if he's going to crack the rotation as a rookie. Powell, along with fellow first-round picks Egor Denmin, Nolan Traore, Ben Saraf and Danny Wolf, will likely all see developmental minutes at some point during the 2025-26 campaign. However, beyond Cam Thomas, Michael Porter and Nic Claxton, the rest of Brooklyn's roster remains a mystery. Proven NBA role players like Terance Mann, Haywood Highsmith, Ziaire Williams, Jalen Wilson and Tyrese Martin will likely be ahead of Powell on the depth chart at first, but the Nets will have plenty of options to mix things up. Powell doesn't need to be drafted, especially in standard leagues, but he's worth keeping an eye on, especially if Brooklyn falls out of the playoff picture early. Read Past Outlooks
Dispatched to G League
Brooklyn assigned Powell to the G League's Long Island Nets on Friday, Erik Slater of ClutchPoints.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Long Island doesn't play its next game until Sunday, so Powell may just be sticking around in the G League to practice over the next couple of days. With Brooklyn playing a road game in Boston later Friday, Powell looks as though he won't be available for that contest. The Nets recalled Ben Saraf from the G League and could have him step into the rotation in place of Powell, who had appeared in each of the team's last 18 games and averaged 5.5 points, 1.8 rebounds and 1.2 assists in 19.5 minutes per contest over that stretch.
